On Saturday, September 28th from 10am until 4 pm,Â
The Alpaca Hacienda will open its doors to the community in celebration ofÂ
National Alpaca Farm Days.Â
The event is free and sure to delight animal lovers of all ages.
Visitors will be able to see and hand feed an array ofÂ
gentle alpacas, raised for their cashmere-like wool, and learn about their colorfulÂ
history and care. Fiber artists willÂ
demonstrate the carding and spinning of alpaca fiber into luxurious yarns atÂ
two times throughout the day, 11am and 1pm. Â
At 2pm is Childrenâs Story Hour, where kids can sit on straw bales andÂ
listen to stories about alpacas. Many alpacas will be available for sale.
The day would not be complete without a visit to theÂ
Boutique, where visitors will find a unique selection of alpaca products, fromÂ
soft plush toys to luxurious scarves, hats, throws, socks and shawls, many ofÂ
which are crafted by local artisans. The Boutique is offering a 10% discount onÂ
all items in celebration of the event.
âAlpacas are gentle, inquisitive animals and are a delightÂ
to raise,â said Beth Osborne, owner of The Alpaca Hacienda. âWe welcome the opportunity to share ourÂ
alpacas with our community, so that more people can learn about them and becomeÂ
acquainted with the beautiful, warm items that are produced with theirÂ
fiber. We shear them once a year, so noÂ
animals are ever harmed in the process, which is important to me.â
Alpacas are a small relative of the camel native to theÂ
Andes Mountains of South America, and are uniquely adapted to the cold, harshÂ
climate found there. They are descendantsÂ
of the wild vicuna, and were prized by the Incas for their soft, lightweight,Â
and insulating fiber, known as âThe Fiber of the Gods.â They make a gentleÂ
humming sound, and can live for 20 years.
The Alpaca Hacienda has been raising alpacas since 2004 andÂ
offers alpaca sales, boarding, and group tours. Â
They have been featured on Pet.TV as well as in Oprah Magazine.Â
The ranch is located at 31755 Rancho VistaÂ
Road, Temecula, CA  92592. Parking is available on the street outsideÂ
the gate. For more information visit their website atwww.TheAlpacaHacienda.com, or callÂ
